Only eat fully cooked food they said. Only drink out of water bottles they said. I made a mistake on one of the first few days we were there in Playa del Carmen by eating salad and NOT drinking water out of water bottles. I thought, “screw it”, since we were pounding shots of tequila left and right all day anyways I shouldn’t get too sick. I was dead wrong. Ended up with traveler’s diarrhea the 2nd or 3rd day we were there. I was out cold and hurt by that Sunday. BUT I didn’t let that stop me from having fun!
It was an honor to be able to attend the wedding of my friends, Phin and Ia, in Play del Carmen. The wedding was absolutely beautiful with unexpected results (rain)! On the day of the wedding, it was starting to get cloudy in the north but where we were it was still sunny and partly cloudy. The wedding took place right on the beach, looking out towards the vast, open ocean. When the ceremony was close to the end, you could tell the clouds were preparing to unleash a surprise on us as it moved quickly to the south towards us. As the ceremony ended, those fast-moving clouds unleashed torrential rain just in the nick of time to cool everyone down and drench everyone from head to toe including all the equipment.
We all stayed at the Grand Paladium resort which was all-inclusive so it was great not having to spend money on food and drinks. We sure did our duty by drinking our money’s worth of alcohol too. The temperature was hot and humid throughout the day, and then cool at night during the entire stay. The nightly thunderstorms came and went without me even noticing. There were about 50 guests that had flown in for the wedding. One of the best experiences there besides the wedding was getting to meet all the new people and making new friends along the way!
Due to traveler’s diarrhea, I wasn’t in the mood or feeling the greatest to be going out on excursions for sightseeing and activities, so there aren’t many photos of outside of the resort as you’ll see.
