Tsukiji Fish Market & Akihabara – Japan

Trip Date: October 27th – November 4th, 2017

Tsukiji Fish Market

We started the day by going to the Tsukiji Fish Market to meet up with some other friends who were already there.  The market where all the stands are where you can grab food was actually smaller than I had thought it would be.  The Tsujiki Fish Market is famous for it’s tuna auctions, but we didn’t go early enough to catch it, so hopefully next time I’ll be able to see it.  Overall, the place was pretty crowded but it was worth the visit at least once.  There were a lot of tour groups and they even have a tax return counter if you’re a foreign tourist.  Just make sure you spend over 5,900 yen first or else you don’t get a tax return on your purchases.

Akihabara

Yes, Akihabara had plenty of maid cafes.  No, we did not go into any of them.  The first stop was the Yodabashi Camera building where we were treated multiple levels of electronics, and one floor dedicated to toys.  That floor with all the toys is where we spent most of our time because of the Gundam model kits.  We also did stop at a multi-level anime store and Japanese pop culture collectibles store afterwards.  By this time, most of us didn’t want to walk anymore because we had spent most of the day walking around with barely any time to rest.  Once everyone were satisfied and ready to head out, we went back to Shinjuku to rest a bit before going out to enjoy an all-you-can-eat shabu shabu dinner.
