Sunny Southern California

There’s something truly special about the coast of Southern California. The palm trees sway gently, the beaches seem to stretch endlessly, and the warm sun is perfectly balanced by the refreshing salty breeze. During our visit, we stayed in La Jolla, a beautiful seaside area just north of downtown San Diego. Our hotel sat right by the beach, with just a walking path between us and the ocean, perfect for our excited toddler who couldn’t wait to splash in the water. While we weren’t staying in central San Diego, we made sure to explore several parts of the city during our stay. In this post, I’ll be sharing some of our moments from La Jolla. I’ll have more posts coming soon with details on the other fun activities we did around San Diego!

Staying by the ocean and beach

We stayed at the La Jolla Shores Hotel, which is located right on the beach and was a perfect spot for our family trip. Getting there from the airport was pretty straightforward, although we did run into some traffic at a few intersections as we got closer to La Jolla. This tends to happen around rush hour, so it’s something to keep in mind. We really enjoyed our stay. The location was very convenient, and having a restaurant inside the hotel made it easy to grab meals with the family without needing to head out again. The hotel is definitely more expensive during the peak season, but if you visit during the shoulder or off-season, the nightly rate is much more reasonable. Our room was spacious, and we loved the large patio doors that let in lots of natural light and fresh ocean air.

Photos

Here are some of my favorite photos from our time in La Jolla. We visited La Jolla Cove, where we saw sea lions relaxing on the rocks and moving around on the beach below. It was such a fun and unique experience, especially for our little one. Since the beach was just steps from our hotel, we took advantage of the early mornings and went for walks while the tide was still low. It was the perfect time to explore. Along the shore, we spotted tiny crabs, a few shark eggs, and even a guitarfish that had washed up on the beach. It felt like a little nature adventure right outside our door.
