The Big Easy – New Orleans, LA

Trip Date: July 9th – July 12th, 2014

The idea wasn’t to actually go to New Orleans.  We had planned on going somewhere random and was hoping it would be somewhere in South America, but instead ended up going to New Orleans at the last minute.  We didn’t even reserve the rental car, hotel, or even look at what we were going to do until we landed.  The spontaneity of the trip made for some interesting and fun experiences though!

For the duration of the trip, we stayed at the Astor Crowne Plaza, corner of Canal Street and Bourbon Street.  I didn’t realize just how close we were to Bourbon Street and the French Quarter until we got to the hotel, so it was quite the surprise to know that we were within steps of where we wanted to be in the first place!  But before heading to the hotel, we made a stop at Cooter Brown’s Tavern and Oyster Bar in Uptown, New Orleans.

Grabbed a few dozen raw oysters on the half shell along with various other fried goodies.

After checking into the hotel, we decided to head out and wander around Bourbon Street and the French Quarter.  Hopped into a few bars to listen to live music and grab drinks, then into a few places to grab a bite throughout the night.

Night’s not over yet, but we’re hungry. Stopped into NOLA Poboys down at the end where Bourbon Street wasn’t so busy.

My shrimp poboy from NOLA Poboys. Great food for soaking up that alcohol!

While in New Orleans, aside from the Bourbon Street bar crawling every night, we also went to the following places (from what I can remember)…

  • The New Orleans Zoo
  • A very popular and packed sushi restaurant somewhere in Uptown
  • A pizza place called, Mellow Mushroom.
  • Frenchmen Street at night to walk around and for some good ol’ Southern comfort food at The Praline Connection.
  • Harrah’s New Orleans
  • Spanish Plaza
  • The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk
  • A bar called, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop
