Adventure Date: 06/03/2021 – 06/06/2021
It’s been hectic for many people because of the pandemic. There hasn’t been a lot of traveling going on ever since the pandemic started either. Fortunately, the coronavirus vaccinations have helped allow most people to sort of go back to a normal life and start traveling again. This road trip was a much needed vacation for my wife and I, and I’m sure the same sentiment rings true for those who came with us especially my sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.
This isn’t the first time that my wife and I have been in the Black Hills region, but it was the first time for the kids and the other adults who joined us for this trip. Our first time was when we were coming through South Dakota last year while traveling to Yellowstone National Park. Back then, we only spent the rest of the day that we arrived in the region to explore before zipping off out West the next morning. This didn’t give us much time at all because we were rushing ourselves through everything. This time, however, we had more time to enjoy what the region had to offer and with more people to enjoy these adventures with!
Our base of operations was in Rapid City where we ventured out from every morning. If you’re looking to be surrounded by the woods, there are plenty of accommodations located near or inside the Black Hills too.
Here is a list of the following places that we stopped at:
- Dignity Statue
- Badlands National Park
- Mount Rushmore National Memorial
- Iron Mountain Highway
- Custer State Park
- Needles Highway
- Crazy Horse Memorial
- Dinosaur Park
- Devils Tower (in Wyoming)
- Spearfish Canyon
- Bear Country U.S.A.
- Dinosaur Museum
- Falls Park (in Sioux Falls, SD)
