One of the places on our adventure bucket list has always been the Mississippi Headwaters at Itasca State Park. We were unsure if the weather would hold up, but we decided to go for it and make the drive anyway.
When we arrived, the park was full of visitors, and the area where the Mississippi River begins was busy with families sitting on the rocks and playing in the water. It made it tough to get a photo without people in the shot, but maybe next time. The best part was watching my wife and daughter cross the headwaters on foot, which made the visit extra special.
As an added bonus, we made a stop in Detroit Lakes to see Alexa’s Elixir. Alexa is the first of several giant trolls hidden throughout the area, and she did not disappoint. She was beautifully crafted and full of character. Just as we were getting ready to explore more, a thunderstorm rolled in and it was starting to get late, so we decided to head home.
We are already looking forward to making another trip back to Detroit Lakes to find the rest of the trolls that we missed.
